If it is cold outside, that’s okay because things are HOT inside The Ground Level! These last two weeks have proven to be most entertaining and exciting!
Thursday night, open mic had a new crowd, some who came for the first time to do their thing! We even had arising lyricists who had a blast coming to the stage for their very first time. This is what we love about our niche. We LOVE local everything! And we enjoy providing a place where artists can SHINE. We encourage artists in the community, established or not, to come out, read, recite and relax in an atmosphere that nurtures creativity! There is plenty of space and a wealthy supply of inspiration at The Ground Level.
The Soulhustle Band packed the house and captivated a ready audience with Live music and Neo Soul. The 6 piece band and soloist, Anitra gave the crowd everything they were looking for and more. There was never a dull moment, and feet were tapping as people called out at the sound of their favorite tune! It was a night to remember.
The Emerging Artist Showcase is on a roll with host and local artist Abby Wood, who not only has an awesome gift in music, but who also has a great eye and ear for talent. It was a double dose of amazing when Phillip Fox took the stage to share his experience with his “What Dreams May Come” Tour. His album release is official, and you can hear and purchase his music online.
Thursdays Poetry Night was THE MAIN EVENT when The Village Voice Soultry Cafe, hosted by Elevated Thinkin’ and DJ Boodyl, filled The Etheridge Knight Performance Room to over flowing and we had to open the cafe side and let the open mic continue! So there was a main event AND an open mic all at once! Vocalists also took the stage to perform Neo Soul. It was a fabulous night and we are looking to many more! The Ground Level is really where it’s at!
Take it from owners Jesse Lipman and Imani Lateef, poets and artists who LOVE what they do and do what they LOVE, all in one place! Their love for fine coffee, art, literature and music are the perfect recipe that The Ground Level is made of.
Our performance space is now named after author/ poet Etheridge Knight. We are proud to give the space a notable name that welcomes notable local talent every week!
